Starting Music Video Filming Meeting - Session 17

Today we did our first film meeting from 3:30pm - 7:30pm and focused on interior shots. We were prepared and booked all the equipment that we needed (DLSR, Shoulder Mount and Tripod) and remembered what costumes were needed.

To begin with we did myself lip syncing through the whole song and made some lighting choices. The reason for this is we wanted to make sure that we created the 'spooky' atmosphere that we planned in pre-production. This involved us turning the lights off and lighting candles, as well as using a torch under our faces. This further makes it evident that my character telling a spooky story.

After that we took the shots of Tammy lighting the candles from a variety of angles which will be used at the beginning of the music video. Then we did some shots of the candles burning and the candles been blown out. The reason we decided to do this is that it makes the structure of our music video more clear with the candles being lit showing the beginning and them being blown out the end. Also, it further highlighted the spooky theme within our music video.

The last thing that we did was film Laura and Tammy lip syncing their parts. However, we feel that we will need to film this again as Tammy's posters in the background made our video not look as professional as we'd liked and the lighting for their shot needs to be improved.

What went well is that we were able to take a good shot of me lip syncing all the song which will make editing easier as we can just line it up straight away to the song. Also, the candle shots we took set the mood for our music video.

To improve we need to bring a spare battery as we only brought one to Tammy's house and it soon ran out. We left it to charge for an hour but it only gave us another 20 minutes to film. Therefore, although we think we shot some good footage we felt we could get more stuff done if we had gotten a spare battery. Also, we need to take shots which are more stable as when we watched clips back they were not as steady as we thought they were. To avoid this we will use the tripod and shoulder mount as much as possible.

Here are some screenshots of what we did today:
