CD front and back cover- 1 minute music video

Today we finished the front and back of the CD cover. We did the back on Publisher and the front on Adobe Photoshop. Here is what they look like:

Front cover

Back cover

We stayed to our initial ideas for the front of the CD cover apart from adding the female characters braid at the bottom. We mainly kept to our original plan of the CD back cover as well other than adding a picture of the actual artist.

We used colour correction on both the photos on the front and back cover to make the shots more vibrant and make the cover reflect the happy upbeat song which we made a music video for. Furthermore, for the braid on the front cover we edited it on Photoshop by cropping out the background.

Behind the scenes/ Outtakes for 1 minute video

Here are some clips we filmed during the process of making Laura's hair similar to the character Rapunzel in the film Tangled and turning Tammy into the male character. We have also included some extra footage we did not include and outtakes.

CD cover ideas - 1 minute music video

As we did the finishing touches to our music video by completing the editing we began to discuss ideas for how we want our front and back cover of our CD to look. During the pre-production process we did have ideas of doing cartoon characters on our cover but we have now decided against this as it won't fit the overall theme as well as we initially thought.

For the front of our CD cover we thought about using a photo we took during the filming of our music video. We all agreed that a photo of the female character in the music video would look the best for the front cover. Here are some options for photos we could use:

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3
For the back cover we feel that we could either have the female character's braid with daises in (close up) or just a bundle of daisies (close up).

Here's a quick sketch which Laura did for the front and back CD cover based on our initial ideas. However, this is not our final idea.

Seventh Meeting for 1 Minute Music Video

Sixth Meeting for 1 Minute Music Video

In today's meeting we began to edit. This involved us ordering the clips into the correct order as well as organising the shots which used the green screen. Therefore, with the shots with the green screen we decided on what backgrounds we would have and what the colours would be. Our final colours chosen were yellow, blue, pink and purple. Whenever it cuts to a different pair of hands the background will be a different colour. This is effective because it will keep the audiences attention.

Next we added the music and had to make sure each shot was in time. However, we only started this and will finish it in the next few meetings.

Here is an example of the change before and after we edited the background with the clapping shots:

We also edited the background when I lip sync the words. Here's the before and after:

Fifth Meeting for 1 Minute Music Video

Today we filmed the majority of our shots, such as the high angled shot of Laura on the floor, her looking out the window, the boy (Tammy) walking out the door, Laura's character following him, the boy (Tammy) sawing for the lyrics "he's a man of his own inventions", Laura in the park for the lyrics "She's a girl with the best intentions" and a range of other shots.

Here are some screen shots of them:

1 minute music video storyboard

This is the storyboard for our 1-minute music video task which I have been working with Tammy and Laura. This storyboard has helped us keep on track of which shots we have already done and which still need to be done. Furthermore, it will carry on helping us during filming and editing because it helps us know the position of the camera and what order the shots will be in.

However, while filming things are going to change but this storyboard helps us to notice what our original idea was and how much it has changed. Although we may use the same shots they may be in a different order.

(The question marks in the last two boxes mean that we are not sure exactly what we are going to put at the ending of our video. This is because we don't know what more ideas we might come up with when finding locations and what is available).

Fourth Meeting for 1 Minute Music Video

Today myself, Tammy and Laura took some pictures which will put at the beginning of the video after the lyrics "come on" to introduce the character and things that she likes to do. This will go to the beat of the music. We took photos of her reading, jumping up in the air, outside on the field with flowers in her hair, drawing and sat on the grass against the tree.

Here are some shots:

We also filmed a high shot of Laura spinning around with he flowers in her hair to show the carefree personality of the character in the music video.

Finally, we organised where we would meet for the next meeting, the time to meet as well as locations. Tomorrow we will be filming at the local church, spar, park and at Laura's house. We have booked the equipment needed which is a DLSR, tripod and shoulder mount.

9 steps to success making a music video for A level

Third meeting for 1 minute music video

Today myself and Tammy started filming, we used a tripod, DLSR and a pop up green screen. We filmed the parts which I lip sync and made sure that we played the music in the background on Tammy's phone so I was in time.

We also filmed people's hands clapping to the beat which included myself, Tammy's, Alex Hunter's (a person from another group) and Mr Welch. Music was played in the background for this as well to make sure it matched the clapping on the track which follows one of Pete Fraser's nine top steps to success making a music video for A level.
For the lyric "come on" we tried to do an extreme close up of my lips but it was blurry so we decided to do a mid shot, in editing we may zoom in.

Laura and Josie did some practice shots using a cloning effect. We may use this in a segment of the chorus. However, Josie is no longer in our group.

Here is the video of all the shots so far which I edited in movie maker, although this is very different to how the finished product will look because I did this quickly to get ideas, so the lip syncing and some clapping shots are not exactly in time.

Here's the cloning video:

Second Meeting for 1 Minute Music Video

Today it was just myself and Laura because Tammy was on a trip for another subject. However, we still made sure to be productive and started to gather more ideas for the narrative. Here is what we have gotten so far.
  • 0-6 seconds we will have four different shots of people clapping from different angles. This may involve turning/flipping the footage when editing.
  • 6-7 seconds with the lyrics "Come on" will have myself lip syncing the words.
  • 7-12 seconds will have four pictures which will go for each bar of music that will be Laura doing a variety of things such as painting and reading.
  • 12-15 seconds with the lyrics "She's the girl with the best intentions" will have myself lip syncing and then I'll turn my head to the side so we can use some sort of transition.
  • 15-18 seconds will have a shot of Laura at a park on a swing.
  • 18-21 seconds with the lyrics "He's a man of his own invention's" will have myself lip syncing.
  • 21-23 seconds will have the actor playing the male role in a science lab doing an experiment with a Bunsen burner. (most likely a flame test).
That's all we've gotten so far but here's some more ideas we've had:
  • During the chorus having Laura on the floor surrounded by things she's collected which will fit the lyric "I want something that I want". Also, have Laura taking things off a shops selves showing her curiosity in everything and her want for something.
  • If there is any space in music that needs to be filled we could just have people dancing, for example, have close up's of their feet when their dancing. As well as film as much footage of Laura on the floor surrounded by things to keep flashing back to it.

First Meeting for 1 Minute Music Video

Today we decided on groups and who we would be working with. I will be working with Laura Knowles, Tammy Baldwin and Josie Quigley-Jay and together we decided on the song Something That I Want by Grace Potter. This was released in 2010 and was apart of the movie soundtrack of Tangled a Disney film which used the song during the ending credits. We think the genre of this song would be classed as a pop love song. We made sure that the song would end at an appropriate time at the end of the first chorus, making it end at 1:02.

We have begun the storyboard and wrote down some ideas for the video. We decided that Laura would be the female role and I would be the singer lip syncing the words. We are still figuring out who will play the male role.

Here is some extra information I found out:
  • Used in video games such as Disney INFINITY series (instrumental) and Disney Crossy Road (8-bit) .
  • It is on the Tangled Original Soundtrack album and Now Thats What I Call Disney 3.
  • It was written and composed by Grace Potter.
Some ideas we got down:
  • Shot of hands clapping to beat at the beginning using different angles.
  • Match on action - To the lyrics "He walked out the door".
  • Quick cuts to match upbeat and happy song.
  • Vibrant lighting - Will create a more positive feeling to the video which is what we want.
  • Low and high shots - Laura looking out the window.
  • Pan to Laura quickly at the beginning when she's introduced with cut zoom.
  • Make boy look free with the lyrics "He's a man of his own inventions" - long shot.

Music Video Practice (Happy by Pharrell Williams)

I worked with Tammy, Lauren and Becky to make this 30 second music video of "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. Here is the finished product.

Here is the original video:

At parts of the video we have recreated what is in the original such as the focus on one person at the beginning of the video this being Pharrell. However, our actor Laura is in a school rather than in an alley way of a street. But we have created a more close recreation when Laura is dancing down the stairs.

Our video also has a similar editing style with quick cuts to different people dancing in different locations.

Storyboard for 30 second music video of Happy by Pharrell Williams

Here is the storyboard which Lauren did for our 30 second music video. However, she only did the first 10 seconds or so because it would be difficult to storyboard the rest due to it being random people dancing in different locations and it being spontaneous.
